June Wrap Up

June Wrap Up

June went by in a flurry. I have no idea how it’s already July. We had a weird weather month, often with chilly and rainy days, so it didn’t quite seem like summer until recently.

My goals for June were to get most of my final kitchen projects done (one more checked off!), make a Father’s Day gift for my husband (check!), catch up on my photo organizing (miserable fail), and enjoy some outside time (check!).

We hosted our somewhat annual Father’s Day BBQ for our dads (and the rest of our family) the day before Father’s Day. It’s always so good to get our families together. My family is close by, and my husband’s family is about 2 hours away. Our parents get along really well, so it’s always nice to get together. I served this amazing mint-chocolate oreo layer cake that day.

One of the big projects I worked on in June was my Des Moines DIY Subway Art Sign for my dining room. I finished it just in time for my husband to hang up our Des Moines Wall Gallery before our families came over for Father’s Day (you know that morning, nothing like cutting it close!).

My son and I made this I Love Daddy Shadow Photo for my husband for Father’s Day. He loves it!

The end of June always brings the Des Moines Arts Festival into town. It’s a really great (and free) event that brings artists from across the nation into downtown Des Moines for the weekend. It’s always a bit nervewracking to take a 4-year old to something like that as I’m perpetually nervous he will try to touch and knock down blown glass exhibits and we’ll owe someone $20,000! Most of the artists asked that you not take pictures of their work, but this one did. The bottom one is the Des Moines skyline. Carter’s favorite thing for the day was rolling down the hill at the sculpture garden.

The sky was a bit cloudy, but we didn’t think it was supposed to rain early in the day. We were wrong, we got soaked!

At the end of the month, I started my series Does This Blog Make Me Look Fat. It’s my way of trying to be accountable to getting healthier.

For July my main goals are to keep up with my fitness goals, get a few sewing projects done, and maybe get back to my photo organizing.

We’re headed to our local Independence Day parade tonight. Have a safe and happy 4th of July!
