Hand Print Easter Bunny

This hand print Easter bunny is a cute and easy Easter craft to do with your kids using just paint and canvas.

I started out the weekend intending to make a super heroes Easter basket for my son. I had already bought some of the felt, and while I was at the store picking up more supplies, I ran across an Avengers Easter basket – for $3. And I came to my senses. Even this craft lover and diy-er sees the light once in a while and realizes it’s not worth making everything. Would mine have been cute? Sure. Would it have taken a while? Likely. Would my son really appreciate it or use it again next year? Probably not. That’s why this blog is called Sometimes Homemade. Sometimes, not always.

Instead of doing that project, I decided to do this adorable hand print Easter bunny project WITH my son. I saw it on Pinkie for Pink last week. I also planned to do the footprint duck from her site, but my son decided he didn’t want to “tickle his feet” with paint. Plus, it snowed here this weekend, so we couldn’t do it outside. (Darn you Mother Nature, where is Spring?!).

This project couldn’t be easier, and we did it with supplies I already had.

Supplies:

• Paper or canvas.
• Paint
• Paint brush
• Sharpie or other marker (optional)

Instructions:

Step 1: Paint your child’s palm, ring finger and index finger. I used acrylic paint since we were putting it on a small canvas. (I had scored a bunch of these small canvases for 50 cents each several months back!). My son wanted the bunny to be orange, so that’s what we went with.

Step 2: Place your child’s hand down on the paper or canvas and make sure to apply a little pressure to the palm and fingers to distribute the paint. We tried it on the poster board first and realized we didn’t put enough pressure on one of the fingers.

Step 3: Wait for the paint to dry and then paint or draw on the bunny’s eyes, nose, mouth and whiskers. My son wanted me to do this part for him, so I used a black Sharpie instead of paint. If I had googley eyes on hand, I would have used those for the eyes.

We were almost done at this point, but my son is loving to write lately and is always asking how to spell things. He wanted to write Happy Easter on it. I think he did a pretty good job!

We haven’t tackled dyeing our Easter eggs yet. Maybe next weekend…
