I Love Daddy Shadow Photo

This I Love Daddy Shadow photo makes a great gift idea for Father’s Day or a birthday. Also makes a perfect quick and easy photo gift for mom’s, grandparents and other loved ones.

Last week I showed you the Father’s Day photo gift I made my husband last year, plus some additional photo gift ideas I found online. This past weekend while my husband was on a weekend golf trip, my son and I tried to replicate the I Love Daddy shadow photo. I’m still trying to decide if I’m going to frame it along with some other photos of my husband and son together Instagram style or just frame this one.

This is a quick and easy project IF you have a willing participant and sunshine. I had only a little of both. My son is 4 and pretty much likes to do the opposite of what I ask him to do just to try to be funny, so it was a little challenging getting him to stand the right way so I could see his shadow, the sign and not so much of his body. That on top of the fact that the sky was pretty cloudy, so we’d get about 1 minute of good shadow making sunshine at a time. Work with me Mother Nature!

I started out by making a cutout reading “I Love Daddy” using my Silhouette Cameo. You could easily do this  using stencils though. I used heavy card stock.

When you’re taking your photos, you’ll need to experiment some with how the shadows fall. Expect to do some cropping of your photo. Here’s what my original photo looked like vs. the cropped one. Like I said, Carter had his own ideas about how he wanted to stand, so we had to go with that.

Hopefully I can get my photos sent out this weekend to get printed. For once I feel like I planned ahead, but it’s still going to come down to the wire!
