My Friday Five – Memorial Day Weekend

My Friday Five – Memorial Day Weekend

Hey Friday, happy to see you again my friend! Why is it that short work weeks after a holiday weekend always seem a bit chaotic? I’m perpetually a day off. While we had rain off and on during our Memorial Day weekend, we managed to eek out as much fun and outdoor activities we could pack into the sun filled moments.

1 | Playing in the Dirt – I tried my hand at doing some container gardens for the front of our house. Hopefully the rain did them some good. I’ll take some better pictures once they grow a little more full (if they live that long – I definitely did not inherit my mom or grandma’s green thumb!).

2 | Best BBQ – Todd has a friend who is a competitive barbequer (is that a word?) Every year we are lucky enough to have him compete at the Smokin’ in the Junction competition that is just a few miles from our house over Memorial Day weekend. Seriously, some of the best smoked meats I’ve ever eaten! We had fun catching up with friends and checking out the other BBQ teams at the event.

3 | Nacho Ordinary Snack – Get it, see what I did there? Nacho = Not your. Okay, anyway I convinced Todd to make one of my favorite things this weekend, grilled chicken nachos. If you’ve never grilled nachos before, you are missing out! By the way, I’m still in love with shredding chicken in my Kitchenaid Mixer!

4 | Beach Fun – We spent Monday afternoon at one of our local beaches. Carter built lots of sand structures. What he really enjoyed was stomping them out after building them. I love the expression of the kid behind him!

The water was still a bit chilly for me, but I assumed my lifeguard pose on the beach while keeping an eye on Carter in the water.

5 | Crafternoon – I managed to sneak in a little afternoon of crafting one of the days this weekend. One of the things I made was this beaded leather bracelet. I found myself planning my wardrobe this week around what would go with it!

It’s hard to believe June starts already next week. I have a feeling the summer is going to fly by way too fast. We have a fun-filled weekend planned with a visit from my father-in-law, a birthday celebration for a good friend, my nieces’ dance recital, and then wrapping up with baseball for Carter on Sunday. Have a good one!

  2. Shredding your chicken in the mixer is life changing! (Ok, maybe just a time saver, but one of my favorite tips.)
