No matter how much I like what I do for a job, I’m always so happy to see Friday. Can I get an amen?! It’s nice to have a few days where we’re not in the regular work and school routines. It also helps that this weekend will be sunshiny and 60+ degrees… in February… in Iowa. Thank you Mother Nature!
And now, My Five:
1 | Baking Debacle – A few times a year I have an absolute baking fail. As much as I love to bake, I should also know by now that I lack patience for complicated or delicate things. I’ve been wanting to attempt to make French macarons for a while now. I had time on Valentine’s Day, so I spent about 3 hours making them, all to have 8 cookies turn out semi-okay. Here are the fruits of my labor, as you can see one set turned out baby poop color instead of a pretty lemon yellow.
The rest turned out pretty misshapen since my batter was a bit too thin and I didn’t get enough of the air out so they collapsed. I’m not sure if I’ll attempt again or just leave it for the bakery.
2 | Speaking of Fails – if you missed it, check out my round up of my favorite Valentine’s Pinterest Fails.
3 | My Loves – We were pretty low key on Valentine’s Day. We made a nice dinner with shrimp, spicy risotto (recipe to come soon), some steak for Todd, and a great bottle of wine. As often happens, Todd and Carter were dressed similarly. Todd says it’s coincidence. (I know better than that!)
4 | Through the Years – Carter and I spent an afternoon last weekend with my Granny B. I always love our visits. She’s 96, still lives in her own home and is sharp as a tack. She’s been following the political debates pretty closely, so it was fun to get her perspective on the candidates. Carter is working on a class project where he needed to interview someone from another generation. Granny B entertained us with her stories of growing up in a family of 12 kids. I’m so very lucky to have had her in my life so long.
5 | Workout of the Week – I’ve been really making an effort to try to get back into a regular workout routine. I haven’t quite figured out what my “thing” is. I tend to like classes or boot camps to keep me motiviated, but with starting a new job recently, I’m not quite ready to commit. I made it to the gym a few times last week and just hit the treadmill. This week I did a few kettlebell routines on Youtube. I love that kettlebells give you both a strength and cardio workout.

Cheers to a great weekend!
