DIY Star Wand for Magical Girlies

Okay, moms — if you’ve got a little one who loves all things sparkly, magical, and a bit over-the-top (you know the type 🧚‍♀️), I’ve got the cutest little craft idea for you. We made these DIY star wands over the weekend, and oh my word, they were a hit.

No sewing machine, no fancy skills — just felt, glue, and a little patience. They’re perfect for princess playtime, birthday party favors, or just something fun to do when you need to keep tiny hands busy for a bit.

What You’ll Need:

  • A couple sheets of felt (whatever colors your magical girly is into — gold and pink were our faves)
  • Cotton balls or stuffing (you can even tear up an old pillow in a pinch — ask me how I know)
  • A wooden stick or dowel
  • Hot glue gun or strong craft glue
  • Scissors
  • Ribbons, glitter, stickers, or whatever else you’ve got in the craft bin
  • Pencil or chalk for tracing

Let’s Make Some Magic:

✂️ 1. Cut Out Two Stars

Start by tracing a star shape onto the felt. You can use a cookie cutter as a stencil, or just freehand it if you’re brave. Cut out two stars — one for the front, one for the back.

🪄 2. Add the Stick

Lay one of the stars down and glue your wooden stick right in the middle so it’s sticking out the bottom like a real wand. I left about two inches of it inside the star to keep it nice and sturdy.

☁️ 3. Fluff It Up

Pop a couple of cotton balls or some stuffing in the center — it doesn’t need much! Just enough to give it a soft, puffy feel.

🔥 4. Seal It Up

Glue around the edges of your first star, then press the second star on top. Make sure to line it up as best you can and press firmly so it holds.

🎀 5. Time to Decorate!

This is the fun part! Let the kids go wild with glitter, stickers, sequins, ribbons — whatever you’ve got. We tied a few strands of ribbon just under the star so they flutter when the wand waves. So cute.

Some Extra Mom Tips:

  • These make adorable party favors. You can prep the star shapes ahead of time and let the kids decorate at the party.
  • They also work as little “tooth fairy wands” if you want to sneak in some extra magic.
  • You can switch out the star for a heart or moon if that fits your little one’s vibe better.

We’ve been on a bit of a DIY kick lately (I blame Pinterest), and if you love easy, whimsical crafts like this, I stumbled on some really cozy ideas over on ABeautifulMadness. Thought I’d share in case you’re in that mood too.
