My Friday Five

My Friday Five

Oh hey Friday, you creeped up on me this week, but I’m happy to see you! Even though summer only officially started this week, I can’t believe that we’re almost to the 4th of July. Slow down please! Here’s what we’ve been up to the last few weeks.

1 | Father’s Day – Todd’s dad and step mom were here over the weekend to spend the day with Carter while we were on a day long bike ride (more on that later), and then we enjoyed celebrating Father’s Day with them.

2 | It’s Thyme for Fresh Herbs –
I made Todd a Mason Jar Herb Garden for Father’s Day. He loves to experiment in the kitchen and with us trying to get our house ready to sell we haven’t planted any herbs this year. Any favorite recipes you want to share using fresh herbs? I’m looking forward to some homemade salsa with the cilantro!

3 | Bacon, Biking, Beer – Oh my!
We spent all day Saturday on the Baccoon Ride, which is a 70+ mile  bike ride on the Raccoon River Trail featuring bacon and beer stops along the way. First stop: Maple Bacon Donut!

Here’s us at a little over the half way point. I’m still smiling, but just barely!

I have to admit, I only made it to mile 60. We still had two towns to stop through, my legs were burning and I was a little delirious. Note to self: drink Gatorade, not just water. Oh, and train more. It was a fun day though and we’ll definitely do it again next year.

4 | Bike for Cause – speaking of biking, a shameless plug for my fundraiser with the Great Cycle Challenge which is raising money for the Children’s Cancer Research Fund. My goal is to ride 150 miles (120 miles in so far) and raise $500. I’d love if you’d consider donating. Whether it’s $5 or $50, every dollar counts! (plus it’s tax deductible!).

5 | Born to Run –
We seem to have front loaded our summer with all of Carter’s activities at once. Last week every day entailed work for us, day camp for him, pick up early so he could eat dinner, rush to track camp, go straight to swim lessons. This week after day camp he just had swim lessons in the evening every night, but whew, I don’t know how some of my friends do it with schedules like this for 2, 3 and 4 kids! Carter has always loved to run, so track camp was right up his alley.

I’m off work today and I’m under the gun to finish the wedding present I’m working on for a friend’s wedding this weekend. Why do I only get creative inspiration at the very last minute?! Whatever you’re up to this weekend, have a good one!
