My Friday Five – Summer Endings

My Friday Five – Summer Endings

It was a whirlwind of a summer! Good times capped off by our recent vacation to Disney, an Ironman for my husband, and all sorts of other things thrown in between. School started last week signaling the official end of summer. Here’s a few of our last summer moments and the start of the school year.

1 | Making a Splash – our local amusement park, Adventureland, announced earlier this year that this season was the last one for the Log Ride, a long time favorite water ride. We had free tickets from my employer so we made the best of our photo opp moment while riding it one last time!

2 | To the Moon – One of our favorite parks in Des Moines is Union Park which features an iconic rocket slide, a vintage carousel (just 50 cents per ride) and a splash park. We couldn’t let summer end without a visit.

3 | Fair Fun – Every year we have a partner event for work at the Iowa State Fair. Our vendors love to visit and take in all the sights and foods of the fair. We did a “State Fair Bingo” challenge which was so much fun. My team scored a “blackout” but we didn’t win the coveted pig trophy! There’s always next year.

4 | School Days – Many of you may have seen Carter’s sad face first day of school picture on Instagram. Luckily he recovered from the trauma of us “doing his hair wrong” and gave us at least a half hearted grin before the first day of school!

5 | Friendly Competition – a friend of ours gave us an air hockey table their kids had outgrown. So far it hasn’t made its way from our garage to our basement yet, but we’ve been enjoying some games each night when we get home.

We’re off to cheer on the Iowa Hawkeyes in the first home game of the season. I’m happy it’s Labor Day and a nice long weekend so we can catch up on a few things at home (like moving the air hockey table downstairs, so we can park both cars in the garage) and enjoy some much needed free time. Whatever you’re up to, enjoy!
